When selecting headsets for your workforce, there are several key factors to consider. The starting point is always the work environment and workflow of your team members, within which you ask yourself:
Together with Poly, we address these three significant criteria to consider when purchasing the right headset. And, that's not all! At the bottom of this page, we also provide a convenient summary outlining various Poly headsets, comparing them for your quick and thorough decision-making.
Of course, our colleagues are equally available at all times to support you should you require assistance.
Enabling productivity throughout an enterprise depends on easily accessible and clear communication, regardless of the location of workers. Clear and effective speech on both ends of a call enhances collaboration and improves the overall experience for everyone involved.
Noise not only impacts your people’s ability to focus on the task at hand, but without noise reduction technology, it can also irritate other participants during conversations.
The noise-cancelling technology in Poly’s headsets eliminates unwanted sounds, allowing workers to focus on the job at hand. Working with laptops, mobiles or tablets, the wireless headset options unchain people from their desk, giving them the freedom to get up and go somewhere quieter. And the wired options have a comfortable cable length, allowing for movement as well.
To ensure that background noise does not interrupt the call, many Poly headsets include a noise cancelling microphone boom. These booms include a special directional dual port microphone that picks up sound in a specific pattern that is focused towards the user’s mouth. Sounds that come from all directions, such as background noise, are picked up with equal amplitude on both microphone ports and hence cancel each other out, reducing the background noise heard by the far end (the caller).
For products without a microphone boom such as the Voyager Free 60 UC, Voyager Surround 80 UC, and Voyager 6200 UC, multiple microphones are used along with beam-forming technology to focus on the user’s voice while minimising background noise.
Acoustic Fence technology keeps conversations free from extraneous noises. Poly makes this possible by automatically reducing background noises using advanced echo cancellation techniques to "cancel out" all soundwaves except the actual speaker’s voice. Poly Acoustic Fence uses multiple microphones to create a virtual “audio fence” so that sounds from “outside of the fence” are blocked from being heard by remote participants. Using proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Poly can further reduce any transmit noise. The Poly Savi 8200 Series uses a noise cancelling microphone boom plus a feature called close conversation limiting, which is designed to reduce the level of nearby conversations. The actual level of noise reduction can be configured via Poly software.
Poly’s WindSmart Technology is a proprietary technology developed for wireless headset products. WindSmart is designed to reduce the impact of wind noise during phone calls or voice communication in outdoor environments. It employs advanced algorithms and microphone design to suppress wind noise and deliver clearer audio quality to the listener. WindSmart Technology helps improve the overall voice clarity and user experience, particularly in windy conditions.
Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) is a technology used in headphones, earbuds, or other audio devices to reduce unwanted ambient noise. It works by using built-in microphones to capture external sounds and then generating anti-noise signals to cancel out those unwanted sounds. By actively countering external noise, ANC helps create a quieter and more immersive audio experience. It is particularly useful in environments with constant or repetitive background noise, allowing users to enjoy their music, podcasts, or calls without the distraction of surrounding sounds.
With Hybrid ANC, additional microphones are placed outside the earcup (in addition to the microphones inside the earcup) measuring both what the user hears and the background noise. This allows a wider frequency of background noise to be reduced while maintaining more natural sidetone for the user during calls.
Additionally, to ANC and Hybrid ANC, the Adaptive Hybrid ANC automatically adjusts to your wearing style and cancels out just the right amount of noise for a quiet and comfortable experience. So, whether it’s a crowded cafe or bustling commute, forget the commotion around you. And with two-setting transparency mode, you can tune back into your natural surroundings.
A wireless headset offers convenience for mobile employees who need or prefer to move around without being tied to a fixed workstation. However, a wireless headset requires charging and depending on it's wireless technology, interference or issues with connecting to a device can occur.
A wired headset doesn't require charging and can operate continuously for longer durations. This might be advantageous, for instance, in a call center where individuals need to make non-stop calls and staying in a fixed location is beneficial since they require access to their computer during conversations.
A mono headset has a speaker on one side, while a stereo headset features speakers on both sides. The choice you make depends on your workstation, role, and even your personal preference.
On-ear is preferred if you need to have a decent conversation but don't require complete isolation from your surroundings. Over-ear ensures better noise isolation, allowing you to work undisturbed and with increased concentration.
Wearing on-the-ear or in-ear includes options like ear hooks, neckbands, or ear pods. These are commonly used by individuals who prefer not to wear a headband over their head, especially by mobile users frequently on the move.
The type of connection required for a headset depends on the devices it needs to be compatible with. We distinguish the following types of connections for different devices:
